One of the few constants throughout Jewish history years is that Jewish identity has never been simple, and the answer to the question of “Who is a Jew? – far from clear-cut. At key moments over the last 3000 years, we have reinvented or reimagined ourselves in the context of the unique reality in which we lived. The cultural, historical, and psychological transformations of the 20th and 21st centuries have ushered in again such a moment and we are again at an identity crossroads. How have the Jews understood there individual and collective identities and how can these understandings shape our understanding of who we are and who we ought to be in the 21st century?
