Position: Bilingual Volunteer Engagement Fellow
The Bilingual Volunteer Engagement Fellow will play a key role in supporting the Foodbank’s People, Culture and Engagement team. This position will support the expansion of the Foodbank’s bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking volunteer base by focusing on the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers. This position will be responsible for identifying potential community partnerships, creating engaging content for outreach, optimizing volunteer onboarding processes, and evaluating the effectiveness of current practices. Additionally, they will oversee the translation of materials and explore potential incentives to further engage bilingual volunteers.

- Gain professional experience in the full scope of nonprofit marketing and fundraising support
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and independent work environment
- Learn the fundamentals of working with a nonprofit organization
- Gain experience in volunteer management and human resources
- Develop content aimed at recruiting and training volunteers about to provide healthy food to those facing hunger in Santa Barbara County
- Support FBSBC EDI initiatives
Role duties and opportunities:
- Research and identify community groups, programs, and organizations that the Foodbank can partner with to reach bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking volunteers
- Develop and implement strategies to attract and engage new bilingual volunteers
- Create compelling recruitment content (emails, flyers, social media posts, etc.) in both English and Spanish to effectively engage potential volunteers
- Determine and implement strategies for establishing recurring volunteer opportunities to ensure consistent volunteer participation
- Develop initiatives to build long-term relationships with bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking volunteers to ensure their continued involvement with the Foodbank
- Review and evaluate the current training and onboarding process for new volunteers. Identify and implement improvements and best practices to ensure a welcoming, efficient, and effective onboarding experience for all volunteers, with a focus on bilingual and Spanish-speaking individuals
- Explore the feasibility and potential benefits of launching a bilingual language incentive program to further engage and retain bilingual volunteers
- Develop and propose a framework for such a program, including eligibility criteria, benefits, and implementation strategies
The Bilingual Volunteer Engagement Fellow will complete the internship in 200 total hours in ten weeks (and occasional weekends).
