Getty Trip: Medieval Manuscripts and Artists’ Books

Getty Trip: Medieval Manuscripts and Artists’ Books

Friday, February 1 / 9:30 AM
Getty Museum and Research Institute

This day-long trip to Los Angeles includes two tours at the Getty Museum and Research Institute focusing on its impressive collection of rare books and manuscripts. For the first session, Marcia Reed, Chief Curator of Special Collections, will discuss selected artists’ books. Special attention will be paid to the inventive book formats created by artists who often work in other media. The second tour session and discussion will explore the Getty’s exhibition of medieval manuscripts entitled “The Art of Devotion in the Middle Ages.” The installation includes a wide variety of exquisite books meant to encourage public and private devotion, such as Bibles, missals, and books of hours. We will also have some time to explore other galleries of interest during the day. For more information about this unique event please contact materialtexts@gmail.com
