The IHC supports innovative and interdisciplinary research in a number of ways:
UCSB faculty members can apply for release-time fellowships, collaborative teaching and research awards, collaborative arts teaching awards, and visual, performing, and media arts awards.
UCSB graduate students can apply for dissertation fellowships, collaborative project awards, and visual, performing, and media arts awards.
The IHC Research Focus Groups (RFG) program brings together faculty and graduate students with shared research interests from different fields and departments/programs to foster the development of interdisciplinary research agendas. Convened by individuals from at least two departments/programs, the RFGs meet regularly (at least three times a quarter) during the academic year to present work in progress, read and discuss texts and current scholarship, and/or plan and implement common research projects.
Research Fellowships are awarded to recent UCSB Ph.D.s in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. The IHC Research Fellows will be affiliated with the IHC and will have opportunities to participate with the Center’s classes, activities and research groups. The IHC’s Visiting Scholar Program provides humanities and fine arts faculty from other institutions the opportunity to make use of UCSB’s facilities while they are in residence in Santa Barbara.
The IHC Research Development staff can support faculty through all aspects of research funding, from assisting with individual grant searches to budget preparation and proposal review. IHC staff is available by appointment to work with individual faculty on proposals-in-progress, providing individual research services and advice on available funding sources. Our staff can assist with strategic planning, budgeting, crafting initial grant application drafts, and fine-tuning drafts before final submission.
