Organization: People’s Self-Help Housing
Founded in 1970, People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) is the longest-serving affordable housing developer on California’s Central Coast. As a nonprofit organization, PSHH is dedicated to building affordable homes with site-based services that offer opportunities to change lives and strengthen communities. PSHH works across Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo counties to provide housing solutions for vulnerable populations. Our comprehensive housing portfolio includes more than 2,000 affordable, supportive rental units, and we have helped over 1,200 households become homeowners through their innovative “sweat equity” program.
Position: DEI and Learning Development Fellow
Every other year, PSHH goes through an equity and engagement assessment in which 200+ employees are welcome to participate in a company guide survey. Later, some employees are identified to participate in focus groups. The assessment informs PSHH leadership of the positive impact and gaps their employees are experiencing to continue improving company culture. The DEI and Learning Development Fellow will help the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor to do mixed-methods research, analyze the data and write the final report to leadership. The Fellow will be in charge of some focus groups and will collaborate with the DEI Advisor in identifying biases and loopholes in the assessment process. As the DEI role at PSHH is highly collaborative, we intend for the Fellow to split their time and collaborate with other departments to fulfill PSHH needs and advance our mission. The Fellow will also help in developing learning development tools for the departments of Property Management and Compliance, which combined have the greatest number of employees and directly serve the 5,000+ residents we have on the Central Coast.
The DEI and Learning Development Fellow will complete the internship in 200 total hours.
