The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County (FBSBC) is committed to ending hunger and transforming the health of Santa Barbara County through good nutrition. With nutrition education, disaster preparedness, environmental sustainability, and community resilience at the forefront of our mission, we are working to solve the underlying causes of hunger in Santa Barbara County.
Position: Marketing Fellow
The Marketing Fellow will work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing, alongside the Development and Strategy team to learn and experience best practices in all aspects of nonprofit marketing. The position will gain significant experience in and understanding of the inner workings of nonprofits as well as the ability to create engaging and accessible marketing initiatives with the overarching goal of raising funds to end hunger in Santa Barbara County.
Internship objectives:
- Gain professional experience in the full scope of nonprofit marketing and fundraising support
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and independent work environment
- Learn the fundamentals of working with a nonprofit organization
- Gain hands-on teaching experience, working in a classroom
- Work with a variety of teams at the Foodbank
- Develop content aimed at recruiting and training volunteers about to provide healthy food to those facing hunger in Santa Barbara County
Role duties and opportunities:
- Research and create best practices for storytelling that align with the Foodbank’s mission, vision, and values. Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for content collection, ethical storytelling practices, and content-sharing guidelines
- Identify methods for gathering compelling and impactful stories from clients, ensuring sensitivity, consent, and respect
- Develop and manage a project plan in Asana to track the progress of the storytelling initiative, from planning and collection to training and implementation
- Create and conduct training for staff and volunteers on best practices for collecting, creating, and sharing stories that are authentic, impactful, and align with the Foodbank’s values
- Develop content and digital marketing aimed at educating the community about opportunities to provide healthy food to those facing hunger in Santa Barbara County
- Develop and post blog content, social media content, marketing communications and press releases
The Marketing Fellow will complete the internship in 200 total hours in ten weeks (and occasional weekends).
