Visitor Information

The Interdisciplinary Humanities Center is located on the 6th floor of UC Santa Barbara’s Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 6046. The HSSB is located directly adjacent to the Events Center (“Thunderdome”). Enter in the north (tower) section of the HSSB, which is located off lot 27, on the side of the building that is closest to the intersection of Ocean and El Colegio. Look for the highest point on the building, with the red designs around the roof. Take the elevator to the 6th floor. (If you enter on the west end of the building, the elevator will only go to the 4th floor; please exit the building and walk through the courtyard to the north entrance of the building.)

Parking is available in lot 22 and lot 27. Lot 27 is a surface lot at the intersection of Ocean Road and El Colegio Road; lot 22 is a parking structure. Visitor permits are required for parking. You can buy a permit at the marked dispensers located in the parking lots and display it on your windshield. Dispensers accept cash and credit cards. SBA
Cabs are available at the airport, or you can call Yellow Cab at 805-965-5111. Cab fare should be about $15-$20. Santa Barbara also has Uber and Lyft, for about $10 to campus.

LAX
UC Santa Barbara is 1 ¾ to 3 hours from LAX, depending on traffic. A transportation option to/from LAX is the Santa Barbara Airbus, which has reliable service and costs $49 (prepaid) one-way to/from Santa Barbara.

Burbank (BUR-Bob Hope Airport)
UC Santa Barbara is 1 ½ – 2 ¼ hours from Burbank-Bob Hope Airport, depending on traffic. Amtrak also runs from the Burbank airport to Santa Barbara and Goleta, 2 ¼ hours (www.amtrak.com).

Directions from the south:
Take the 101 freeway north to the “UCSB/Ward Memorial” (Highway 217) offramp. Take the 217 until it ends at the UCSB campus gate. Turn right into Mesa Road. Go 1/2 mile and turn left onto Ocean Road. Ocean Road will veer right at the bus loop. Continue on Ocean Road to the intersection of Ocean and El Colegio. Parking is available in lot 22 and lot 27. Lot 27 is a surface lot; it will be on your left at the intersection of Ocean Road and El Colegio Road. Lot 22 is a parking structure; it will be on your left after you pass the El Colegio intersection on Ocean Road.

Directions from the north:
Take the 101 freeway south to the Los Carneros exit. Turn right on Los Carneros, and follow it until it ends at El Colegio Road. Turn left on El Colegio and go 1/2 mile. We are located at the intersection of El Colegio and Ocean Road. Parking is available in lot 22 and lot 27. Lot 27 is a surface lot at the intersection of Ocean Road and El Colegio Road; stay on El Colegio through the light and then turn right into the lot. Lot 22 is a parking structure. Turn right on Ocean Road and the structure will be on your left.
